The Overtown Tornadoes Track and Field Program is a program that was put together to keep children off the streets. The program utilizes the sport of track and field to cultivate the attention of juveniles between the ages of 4 thru 18. The program includes education, gang resistance, culinary, etiquettes, and antiviolence colloquiums. The program consists of children that live in the Overtown community, a community that is rich in cultured and valuable in history; however, the community is currently being challenged with street violence, drug dealers and drug users. These are the challenges that enhance the importance of children participating in this program, keeping them off the streets. The program consisted of a roster with over 117 children from the community and has been operating under the Miami Tornadoes Inc., a non-profit 501c3 organization.
